Badminton is one of the cheapest racket sports you can play in Singapore — but "cheap" still needs a number before you invite seven friends. Here's the realistic math.
1. The court: S$1–5 per person
An ActiveSG court costs S$3.50/hr off-peak or S$7.40/hr peak for citizens/PRs. Two peak hours = S$14.80. Split 8 ways, that's S$1.85 per person. Even a private court at S$30/hr peak works out to S$7.50 per person for two hours among 8. The court is almost never the expensive part.
2. Shuttlecocks: S$2–4 per person
This is the real cost driver. A social doubles session burns through 4–6 feather shuttles; at roughly S$3–4 per shuttle (S$35–45 per tube of 12), that's S$12–24 per session — often more than the court. Nylon shuttles last far longer and cost less per session, which is why many social games use them.
3. What open games charge: S$4–12
If you join someone else's game instead of organizing, expect to pay around S$4–12 per player for a two-hour session, covering court and shuttles. That's the going range for games organized on Facebook and Telegram. If a game charges far above this with no explanation of what's included, ask.
4. Splitting it fairly
The formula most organizers use: (court + shuttles) ÷ players, rounded to the nearest dollar. Publish the math in the game announcement — "S$14.80 court + S$20 shuttles ÷ 8 = S$5 each" — and nobody argues.
